A hard look at prison

From the excellent Sentencing Law and Policy blog. It’s always refreshing to hear about alternatives to prison and thought given to rehabilitation and preventative measures. I mean, would putting someone in a cell, cut off from culture and civilization, given excellent networking opportunities with other criminals, and subjected to abuse at the hands of inmates and possibly guards, really work well in the long-run for preventing crime?
