First verses aren’t that great but it gets better–keeping it real simple, sounds kind of like late 90s/early 2000s Jay-Z before the fame got to his head. The Black Album was a bit indulgent, sort of a “end of career” retrospective telling us how we’d all miss him when he quit. Kingdom Come–who knows. He was too concerned with making bad songs with that guy from Coldplay and elaborating on boring stuff like how he’s CEO of Def Jam and plays golf and blah blah blah. Let’s hope the rest of the album equally hearkens back to pre-Blueprint 2 material, before he decided he was so bored with rap that he was going to quit–and then rapping about being bored and quitting for three more albums.

Hopefully there will be a bunch of Just Blaze tracks, and Jay-Z won’t turn down the best beats again.
